Location

Wairangi Station is five thousand acres of bush, hills, rivers, and open farming country,  two hours from Wellington.  Deer, goats, wild pigs and possums roam freely on the station, which adjoins the Haurangi Forest Park and the slopes of Mount Ross.  It is famous for its hunting, but sheep and cattle are also farmed there.  A true New Zealand wilderness experience!

Twenty minutes down the  road is White Rock with a wild, rugged beach, famous for surfing and fishing.

Directions

From Wellington go through Martinborough three-quarters the way round the Square.  Take Jellicoe Street (signposted to Haunui Wind Farm and Lake Ferry).  After 2km turn off to the left to White Rock.  Stay on the White Rock Road past the wind farm, through Tuturumuri past the school, climb the hill into Manahau Station and stay on the road – don’t  turn off to their cattleyards.   Take the right hand turn over a bridge signposted Cape River Road.  Wairangi Station is at the end of the road.  Please shut the gates if they’re shut.  If you reach Riversdale Station or the White Rock Coast you’ve gone too far and missed the Cape River turnoff.

Watch out for surfers coming back from White Rock in the afternoon.  They drive fast round blind corners.
